Higher education is directed to prepare Indonesia in development era of industrial and information. The government through the Directorate General of Higher Education in 1985 instructed to open a new Undergraduate (S1) Program for the field of computer technology in four universities or institutes in which ITS was included. In the ITS, this program was originally given the name of Computer Engineering Program. But since 1993, Computer Engineering Program name changed to Department of Computer Engineering. Finally, in 1996 the department officially changed its name to Department of Informatics under the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 224/DIKTI/Kep/1996, dated July 11, 1996. At this time, Department of Informatics obtain accreditation “A” based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) Number 003/BAN-PT/Ak-X/S1/V/2006, dated May 18, 2006.
